On April 15, 1912, the British luxury liner RMS Titanic sank in the North Atlantic off Newfoundland at 2:20 a.m. ship's time, striking an iceberg; 1,514 people died, while less than half as many survived.
Today is the birth date of San Francisco, incorporated in 1850.
In 1865, President Abraham Lincoln died 9 hours after being shot the night before by John Wilkes Booth at Ford's Theater in Washington. Andrew Johnson became the nation's 17th president. Lincoln actually died in a building across the street from the theater.
'42' scores at home, Cruise dominates overseas
The Jackie Robinson tale "42" took in $27 million to top the weekend box-office. “Scary Movie 5” opened in 2nd place with $15 million. The new Tom Cruise film “Oblivion” opened in 52 countries with $61 million. It opens in the U.S. Friday.
`The Avengers' takes top prize at MTV Movie Awards
"The Avengers" won 3 MTV Movie Awards last night, including movie of the year. “Avengers 2” will be out in 2015. Hollywood uses the fan-driven Awards to promote summer movies. The season begins in early May. Honorees and presenters represent upcoming movies.
Comedian Kevin Hart arrested on suspicion of DUI
Comedian Kevin Hart was arrested for DUI before dawn Sunday on Highway 101 in Los Angeles. His black Mercedes nearly collided with a tanker trunk. He failed a sobriety test and was booked and released on a $5,000 bond. A female passenger went home in a taxi.
Bieber criticized for Anne Frank comment
Justin Bieber visited the Anne Frank House Museum in Amsterdam Friday evening. He wrote in the guestbook he hoped she would be a fan of his if history were different. The comment brought mixed results. She died at age 15. Bieber performs in Oslo, Norway this week.

Justin Bieber is promoting a debit card to teach kids financial responsibility. The goal is to manage money: don’t spend more than you earn, & save what you can. Consumer Reports is cautioning that debit cards and pre-paid cards often carry hidden fees.

Matt Damon and his wife, Luciana Barrosso, renewed their wedding vows on the Caribbean island of St. Lucia. They were wed in Dec. 2005. She is an Argentine-born former bartender. Guests attended a cocktail reception on the beach. They called it fun, happy & private.

Shakira's ex-boyfriend and former business partner is suing her for $100 million. She and Argentine businessman Antonio de la Rua ended their relationship in 2011. He claims he is responsible for her success. She has a 10-year deal with Live Nation worth $300 million.
Jenna Bush Hager gives birth to daughter
Former President George W. Bush has become a grandfather. Twin daughter Jenna Bush Hager gave birth to her first child, a daughter, Saturday night in NYC. The baby's name is Margaret Laura "Mila" Hager. She is named for her grandmothers.

A 79-year-old woman in Michigan awoke from a 5-year coma in 2011. Her first request: see a Bob Seger concert. She’s a life-long fan. The care center arranged it. She was there Thursday night in Auburn Hills. She also met him & his family. Seger, by the way, is 67.

Actor Frank Bank has died just one day after turning 71. He is best known for his role of Clarence 'Lumpy' Rutherford in 1950s sitcom “Leave It To Beaver.” He died Saturday. After Beaver ended, Bank became a bond broker and appeared on celebrity game shows.
