'American Idol' returns betting big on new judges
"American Idol" returns tonight with new judges Mariah Carey, Nicki Minaj and Keith Urban. Their mission: discovering a singer who can charm America. Fox is hoping the new panel and talent pool brings new life to the aging show that no longer dominates TV ratings.
Fox: Mariah Carey’s legend status worth every penny of $18 million
Fox thinks Mariah Carey is good enough to earn one of the highest salaries in television. The “American Idol” judge will be paid $18 million for this season, $3 million for than Britney Spears got for “X Factor”. Nicki Minaj is getting $12 million and Keith Urban $6 million.
Not guilty pleas entered for Lohan in June car accident
Lindsay Lohan pleaded not guilty Tuesday to charges related to a car crash into a dump truck in June. She was ordered to appear in court for a pretrial hearing Jan. 30. Her plea was entered by attorney (for now) Shawn Holley. The trial date is Feb. 27.
Sundance says no thanks to Lindsay’s film
The Sundance Film Festival has rejected Lindsay Lohan's film, "The Canyons." They did a pre-screening of the movie, then decided not to show it at the festival. The movie instead will be screened for buyers at the end of the month. A release date is pending a distributor.
Lindsay Lohan and guests do $50,000 of damage to NYC hotel
Lindsay Lohan is banned from the W Hotel at Union Square in New York City. She rented a room there for several weeks, and allowed friends to hang out. The room was trashed with cigarette burns everywhere. The carpets had to be changed. Damage is $50,000.
Newtown shooting survivors record song for charity
21 children who survived last month's shooting rampage at Connecticut's Sandy Hook Elementary School have recorded a version of "Over the Rainbow." It’s being sold on Amazon and iTunes. Proceeds benefit the United Way and the Newtown Youth Academy.
“GQ” says Beyonce hottest woman of the 21st century…so far
“GQ" magazine has chosen the 100 Hottest Women of the 21st Century. Beyonce was given the title "Miss Millennium". The list is in no particular order. Some are on it twice. The list includes a healthy dose of celebrities, politicians, and female newsmakers.
Elton John calls baby boy Elijah
Elton John and David Furnish have named their new baby boy Elijah Joseph Daniel. He was born Friday evening in Los Angeles. They also have a 2-year-old son, Zachary. They used the same California-based surrogate who had Zachary on Christmas Day 2010.
Kim Kardashian reveals fertility issues; calls pregnancy 'a pleasant surprise'
Kim Kardashian's pregnancy took her by surprise. She faced fertility issues similar to her sister Khloe's. She is due in July, about the same time Kourtney's child Penelope was born last summer. "Kourtney & Kim Take Miami" returns to E! on Sunday at 9 p.m.
'X Factor' winner Tate Stevens signs record deal
‘X Factor’ champ Tate Stevens has signed a record deal. The Season 2 winner signed a deal with Syco/RCA Nashville under producer Simon Cowell. He’s already writing and recording his debut. The untitled new album will be released later this fall.
Chicago rapper facing jail for parole violation
Chicago rapper Chief Keef has been taken into custody. A juvenile court judge decided a video of him firing a semiautomatic rifle at a New York gun range was a violation of probation. He pointed a gun at police last year. He’ll be sentenced Thursday. He is 17.
Oxygen halts controversial 'Babies' Mamas' project
The Oxygen cable channel has pulled the plug on "All My Babies' Mamas." The reality show starred rapper Shawty Lo, his 11 children and their 10 mothers. A petition collected 37,000 signatures. The Parents Television Council threatened to protest advertisers.
Drop Dead Diva Cancelled
Drop Dead Diva has been laid to rest. The series, which airs on the Lifetime network, has been cancelled after four seasons. The show starred Brooke Elliott as a model who is killed in a car crash and comes back to life as an overweight lawyer.
Jessica Simpson Set for NBC Comedy Pilot
Jessica Simpson is set to star in a television pilot in development for NBC. It’s loosely based on her life. She became best known for reality TV shows, and for singing a few pop songs. The new comedy will feature Simpson in unusual and silly situations…much like her past.

Rap duo Kris Kross is reuniting to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Jermaine Dupri's So So Def Records. Chris Kelly and Chris Smith formed Kris Kross in 1992. They disbanded in 1996 after 3 albums. Da Brat, Xscape, & Bow Wow perform at Fox Theater in Atlanta Feb. 23.
