Jazz fest not tripped up by cancellations, add Springsteen, Buffett, Cee Lo

Bruce Springsteen, Jimmy Buffett and Cee Lo Green were last-minute headliners for the New Orleans Jazz Fest. John Mayer had throat trouble, Eddie Vedder had back pain, and Jill Scott was filming the remake of "Steel Magnolias." The 43rd festival was this weekend.

Biggest Loser's Sam Poueu married fellow Season 9 contestant Stephanie Anderson on Saturday. The wedding took place in San Francisco. The duo lost a collective 241 pounds. Last September, Poueu was badly injured in a roof fall. He is still recovering.

"Grey's Anatomy" star Patrick Dempsey came to the aid of a teenager who flipped his car into his Malibu yard. The teen lost control of his Mustang Tuesday evening. It overturned several times. Dempsey got the teen out with a crowbar. He suffered a concussion.

It was a tough night for Adam Levine and Cee Lo Green. They were each forced to send home one of their contestants on The Voice. Cee Lo’s choice to axe James Massone didn’t come as much of a surprise. But Adam opted to send fan favorite Pip packing.

The day before Dick Clark died of a heart attack, he underwent prostate surgery. The death certificate states Clark died from a heart attack and suffered from coronary artery disease. He was 82. He is survived by three children and his third wife, Kari Wigton.

The trial of the man accused of killing Jennifer Hudson's family opened with the marquee witness. She took the stand for sometimes-tearful testimony about her family. The judge has instructed jurors to set aside any sympathy for Hudson.

Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli has filed suit against White House gate crasher Tareq Salahi. He allegedly cheated customers who bought wine tours from his Northern Virginia company. Salahi told The Washington Post "it sounds like a witch hunt."

Lindsay Lohan will portray Elizabeth Taylor in a Lifetime film about her love affair with actor Richard Burton. Production on "Liz & Dick" is set to begin in early June. There was no mention of who will play Burton or when the film will air.

Katy Perry will perform her latest hit, Part of Me, on next week's American Idol results show. Meanwhile, she & some friends have recorded their own video version of Canadian Carly Rae Jepsen's Call Me Maybe and posted it to YouTube.

Usher Joins Cast Of Off-Broadway Play For 1 Day

Usher will join the cast of “Fuerza Bruta: Look Up,” a fast-paced, acrobatic play where the audience stands as performers dance and jump around. He’ll perform in 2 shows April 28 at the Daryl Roth Theatre on Broadway. “Fuerza Bruta” means “brute force” in Spanish.

Jonathan Frid, vampire in "Dark Shadows", dies at 87

Canadian actor Jonathan Frid has died at age 87. He’s best known as Barnabas Collins, the vampire in the 1960s ABC soap "Dark Shadows." He died of natural causes in a hospital in his home town of Hamilton, Ontario. Twenty million viewers watched the show at its peak.

 

 

Men at Work musician Greg Ham found dead

Greg Ham of the Australian band Men at Work was found dead in his Melbourne home Thursday. Police said the death did not appear to be suspicious. He lived alone. He was 58. He played the flute riff on "Down Under" and the saxophone on "Who Can It Be Now?"

The Band's Levon Helm Dies

Musician Levon Helm has died. He was 71. He was the drummer for the group called The Band. They are best known for backing up Bob Dylan in the 1960s. They then released their own works. They also played at Woodstock. Helm died of throat cancer.

Dr. Dre Wants Hendrix And Gaye Holograms

Dr. Dre hopes to see Jimi Hendrix and Marvin Gaye return to the stage as holograms. He was a key figure in developing a hologram of Tupac Shakur for Coachella. He wants the technology used for other deceased performers, if their families or estates agree.

Martha Stewart to host PBS cooking show

Martha Stewart will star in a new PBS series called "Martha Stewart's Cooking School," starting this fall. The 30-minute show will air on PBS stations across the nation. Aspiring cooks will learn techniques for preparing classic dishes as well as new ones.

Madonna Hires Lourdes Clone For Tour

Madonna has hired a lookalike of daughter Lourdes to throw the paparazzi off during her MDNA world tour. She also has 5 clones for herself. The tour kicks off on May 29 in Tel Aviv. Lourdes is establishing her independence and trying to make her own mark on the industry.

Rush announces new album, tour

Canadian rock band Rush has announced plans for a 2012 North American concert tour. Their upcoming 20th studio album is called "Clockwork Angels." It’s out June 12. The 33-city tour starts Sept. 7 in New Hampshire and wraps Dec. 2 in Houston.

Former drug addict Russell Brand is lending his help to a UK political enquiry into drug policy. He will share his experiences with the Commons' Home Affairs Select Committee on Tuesday. He’s been clean almost a decade, and is making a documentary on addiction.

'Glee' clips out, honors Whitney Houston Tuesday night

The "Glee" Whitney Houston tribute will air this Tuesday at 8 p.m. on FOX. Already, several clips have been “leaked.” Amber Riley, Lea Michele, Naya Rivera and Chris Colfer deliver a chilling a cappella version of "How Will I Know."

Jessica Simpson wants to give birth by caesarean section because she is terrified of pain. She is due any day now. The father is her fiancé, Eric Johnson. A friend said, ''she wanted to experience natural birth, but decided to go with what made the most sense for her.''

“Dick Clark, so long” …TV, music icon dies at 82

Dick Clark died Wednesday at age 82. He was long known as "the world's oldest teenager." He died of a heart attack at a Santa Monica hospital.

He owned New Year's Eve after four decades hosting his annual telecast from Times Square.

His Dick Clark Productions supplied movies, game shows, beauty contests and more to TV. In the 1980s, he had programs on all three networks (no Fox then).

He was listed among the Forbes 400 of wealthiest Americans.

He defended music artists of all races and artistic freedom. He condemned censorship.

He joined "American Bandstand" in Philadelphia 1956 after original host Bob Horn was fired. He turned it into a cultural icon. “Bandstand” was the first show to broadcast white and black teenagers dancing together. It ran on ABC from 1957 to 1987.

He hosted Miss USA from 1989-1993 -- and Miss Universe 1990-1993.

Clark suffered a stroke in 2004 that affected his ability to speak and walk. He was replaced that year by close friend Regis Philbin. Many praised his bravery, including other stroke victims. He promised to co-host the show until his death. He selected Ryan Seacrest to take over main hosting duties.

He was born Richard Wagstaff Clark in Mount Vernon, N.Y., in 1929.

Clark idolized his athletic older brother, Bradley, who was killed in World War II.

Clark donated Bandstand's original podium and backdrop to the Smithsonian Institution.

He said of Michael Jackson, “Many have tried and will try to copy him, but his talent will never be matched."

In 1974, at ABC's request, Clark created the American Music Awards after the network lost the broadcast rights to the Grammy Awards.

He was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes in 1994.

There will be no public funeral. In lieu of flowers, Dick's family asks that donations be made to the National Parkinson’s Foundation based in Miami.

Jack Wagner remains among "The Bold and the Beautiful," but his time on "Dancing With the Stars" is done. He received the least votes. Gavin DeGraw & Gladys Knight joined him in the bottom 3. For the next 3 weeks, the judges will send the worst dancers home.
